Tumescent Liposuction- The Secret to Body Shaping With Local Anesthetic

Tumescent Liposuction is a procedure by which large amounts of dilute local anesthesia is administered to different parts of the body. Liposuction involves making incisions in the skin and extracting parts of fat under the skin using a thin tube known as a cannula under the influence of anesthesia. In Tumescent Liposuction, anesthesia is administered similarly. This makes the parts to bulge and become firm. Dilute epinephrine present in the tumescent anesthetic solution suppresses the capillaries making liposuction pain free and also free of blood loss. The procedure is applied to both men and women. It is applied to the abdomen, thighs, arms, back, flanks, buttocks, knees, face, neck and ankles. Treatments include breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, face treatments, breast augmentation with implant, fat transfer on buttocks, fat application to face. Tumescent liposuction also reduces incidences of nausea and vomiting. Tumescent liposuction increases risk of Lidocaine toxicity due to the excessive presence of Lidocaine in the solution. There is a possibility of liquid or fluid accumulating in the lungs. Tumescent liposuction is made up of the dry technique, wet technique and the super wet technique. The dry technique involves a high amount of blood loss and is used lesser now. The wet technique uses injecting fluid prior to liposuction. 100 Milliliters of Epinephrine in local anesthesia are injected into the tissue before the liposuction. This results in lesser blood loss and pain to the patient. In the super wet technique, intravenous sedation is used. The surgery is of short duration and the patient is able to perform other procedures simultaneously. Lasers are used to enhance or supplement liposuction procedures. Lasers help remove large amount of fat. Lasers help better removal of the fat, is less painful, the healing and recovery is faster, less amount of tumescent fluid is consumed, and patients can see results faster than in convention liposuction.
In Tumescent Liposuction, the area to be sucked is marked by the surgeon. The decided type of anesthesia is applied like local, sedation or general. The area affected by the liposuction is numbed before and after the procedure and the pain is also drastically reduced. The cannula is navigated through a cut into the skin and the fatty layer is cupped. Next, the vacuum attached to the cannula is started. The fat is extracted into a collection tube. Patients are advised to wear a covering on the area of the liposuction for the next couple of days or weeks. This allows the area to heal and realign with the rest of the body. The cost involved of a liposuction depends on the areas worked on. The abdomen costs more, whereas the thighs and stomach are lesser costing. Tumescent Lidocaine is toxic if administered more than 6 milligrams per liter. The tumescent technique has improved over the years due to the refinement of anesthesia. The pain in the liposuction has reduced. The addition of Sodium Bicarbonate to the anesthetic solution has caused this improvement. Clonidine added to the anesthetic has reduced the incidence of rapid heart rate caused due to epinephrine.
