What Is WCDMA?

[What is WCDMA?]. [WCDMA] stands for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access. It is a communication link present in 3G mobile telecommunications networks or systems. It uses the same network standard as 2G GSM networks used throughout the world. It operates on 5 Mega Hertz radio channels. It has a chip rate of 3.84 MHz. It supports FDD and TDD. Pilot symbols and channels are used to detect uplink and downlink. Asynchronous operation is supported in which signals are sent intermittently and not in the form of a steady stream.

[What is WCDMA?] for transmission signals. Transmission is performed on a 10 ms frame by frame emission pattern. The power used for empowering is adaptive signal to interference ratio. Different users can be detected by smart antennas which are used to enable improved capacity and storing of the signals. Handoff or handover between cells are soft, softer and hard. The frequency reuse scheme is 1:1. The system includes various mobile transmission devices which communicate from a base station along with a mobile switching center or a data routing center to communicate with other landline telephones, mobile phones and the internet through a core network.

The core network is made up of voice systems like circuit switching and packet data switching. A soft handover involves information from a mobile device being received from both cell sites and frames of the highest quality that can be selected. A GSM system can be upgraded to a [WCDMA] by removing, replacing or upgrading to [WCDMA] modulation and transmission. It also allows different users to transmit simultaneously at different transmission rates. UMTS supports all second generation devices, applications and services.

UMTS has a frequency band of 1920 MHz -1980 MHz and 2110 MHz - 2170 MHz (Frequency Division Duplex) UL and DL. The minimum frequency band is 2x5 MHz. The carrier spacing is 4.4 MHz to 5.2 MHz. It uses AMR codecs for voice coding. The modulation is QPSK. The pulse shaping is root raised cosine and chip rate is 200 kHz.
